Billionaire CEO Gets Green Light for Landmark Brickell Headquarters With Public Waterfront Access

Brickell continues its rapid evolution as Miami’s financial and luxury real estate hub. This week, the Miami-Dade County Commission unanimously approved plans for a major bayfront development at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive, clearing the way for a striking new global headquarters led by billionaire investor Ken Griffin.

Griffin is the founder and CEO of Citadel, which relocated its headquarters from Chicago to Miami in 2022.

A Transformational $2.5 Billion Brickell Development

The approved project will feature a 54-story mixed-use tower including premium office space, a luxury hotel, restaurants, curated retail, fitness and wellness amenities, and a publicly accessible waterfront promenade connecting to the Brickell Baywalk.

To advance the project, commissioners approved a zoning variance allowing the tower to be built 40 feet from Biscayne Bay, while still preserving public access along the bayfront. Citadel stated the project will “redefine the Miami skyline and revitalize the Brickell Baywalk,” with construction expected to begin in early 2026.

Cementing Brickell as a Global Financial Capital

Citadel’s move to Miami has accelerated Brickell’s rise as a global center for finance, technology, and innovation, reinforcing demand for both commercial and residential real estate in the area.

Philanthropy and Community Investment

The development represents a $2.5 billion private investment, with Griffin also making significant philanthropic contributions across South Florida, including support for hospitals, cultural institutions, and education initiatives—further strengthening Brickell’s long-term appeal.
