Why Miami Is the Most Expensive City for Dining Out

October 2, 2025
If you’ve ever felt like dining out in Miami is draining your wallet — you’re not wrong. A new report by Chef’s Pencil, analyzed by NBC6, confirms that Miami ranks as the most expensive city in the U.S. for eating out.

The study examined restaurant price data from over 170 cities worldwide, comparing the cost of a mid-range three-course meal to local wages to determine affordability.

Miami’s Dining Cost Breakdown:
• Meal-to-Salary Ratio: 1.4%
• Average Mid-Range Meal Cost: $60
• Average Monthly Net Salary: $4,230

That ratio places Miami at No. 71 globally — ahead of other major U.S. metros like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas in terms of dining expense.

Beyond full meals, the report also considered the prices of everyday items like a cup of coffee and a beer, further underscoring Miami’s high cost of living when it comes to food.
