Celebrity chef José Andrés has unveiled his latest culinary venture in the vibrant city of Miami Beach, adding a touch of Mediterranean flair to the culinary scene. Zaytinya, the renowned chef’s Mediterranean restaurant, has found its new home within the luxurious Ritz-Carlton hotel along the picturesque waterfront of South Beach, Florida.
With previous successful establishments in Washington, D.C., and New York, Chef José Andrés is excited to bring the beloved Zaytinya experience to the diverse and dynamic city of Miami. The restaurant, known for its fusion of Greek, Turkish, and Lebanese cuisines, melds traditional recipes with contemporary twists, earning a devoted following since its inception in 2002.
Expressing his fondness for Miami, Andrés stated, “I love Miami. Our team has been down here for over a decade, and so, bringing Zaytinya to Miami was an easy decision. When we opened Zaytinya in D.C. over twenty years ago, we wanted a wide range of people to experience this cuisine in an authentic way. Expanding to New York, and now Miami, allows us to continue to tell our story.”
Guided by the culinary expertise of James Beard Award-winning José Andrés, alongside chef partner Aglaia Kremezi and chef Michael Costa, Zaytinya offers an enticing menu featuring an array of spreads like hommus and smoky baba ghannouge. The selection extends to various flatbreads, including the egg-topped soujouk pide, and a variety of vegetable mezzes, with the crispy brussels afelia emerging as a fan favorite. Larger plates include tantalizing options like octopus Santorini, seared sea bass, spiced lamb baharat, and the tangy shish taouk. Notably, Zaytinya also opens its doors for breakfast, presenting traditional eastern Mediterranean dishes such as çibir, Ottoman-style poached eggs, whipped yogurt, and harissa chili.
Complementing the delectable cuisine, Zaytinya South Beach boasts a thoughtfully curated beverage program. This includes a selection of unique wines and Mediterranean cocktails infused with regional flavors and spirits like Greek gin and vermouths.
True to the aesthetic legacy of its predecessors in Washington, D.C., and New York, Zaytinya Miami embraces a decor that combines white oak and bronze elements with accents of Mediterranean blue, evoking an elegant and seaside ambiance. Beyond the restaurant itself, the José Andrés Group now oversees all food and beverage operations at Ritz-Carlton, South Beach. This includes the Lapidus lobby bar, DiLido Beach Club, in-room dining, banquet services, and the lounge, as part of the group’s joint venture in a 15-story residential building on the property.
What sets the Miami location apart from its counterparts? According to Andrés, it’s the unique atmosphere of the city itself — the azure ocean, the salty air, and the warm breeze, creating an experience that truly captures the essence of Miami’s charm.
